One thing I feel like we all over look is our needs. Anyone who has studied Maslow will probably relate to this more than those who haven’t. Those who haven’t should use Google and learn about the hierarchy of needs he so exquisitly broke down through his main body of work here in this world we all try to understand. And this is where I believe it starts.
When we learn about our own needs and how they play a role in contentment we begin to understand who we are and how we relate to the world around us.
For instance, I value understanding, respect and accountability much higher on my list of needs than I do relationships, accomplishment or security. This is due to the confidence I have in my ability to protect myself and knowing that even through my failures I’ve learned more than I have while winning. At the same time everything is always changing around us so there is constant pressure to understand things and adapt. Same goes for people. We all grow and change or we grow and the others we have relationships with don’t and we end up grow apart vs growing together. If we don’t respect each other and hold each other accountable there is no relationship to begin with.
While we process through the end of this pandemic that has torn us apart and forced us to really get closer with ourselves I think it’s important we all take the time to understand our needs so we can garner the motivation to become better human beings.
Doing this will work wonders. We will all grow closer to each other as a whole as we get a better understanding of ourselves and the roles we play in others lives. And ultimately, we will be able to work together due to that connectivity we create to make this world a bit better than we found it. If we don’t do I feel like we will keep growing a apart and watch this world continue to crumble.
The choice is up to each of us.
